Covert Extreme Black 60 Trail Camera

The Covert Extreme Black 60 Trail Camera has the same impressive features that you get with the Special Ops Code Black 60 except for the wireless feature. The camera has had HD video included in the latest version (2013) along with sound capability.

The camera uses black flash technology to minimize the chances of being noticed at night when triggered. There are 60 high intensity black flash LEDs that help take pictures at night without a visible flash.

It is possible to view the shots in the field with the 2” screen. This screen also makes it very easy to set up and program the camera for time lapse and interval modes. The ease of adjustment is one of the positives that is easily noticeable when using the display screen. It is an intuitive process to follow the menu prompts as you set the date and time and decide on the various modes that are available.

A further improvement has been made in the latest version of the camera with an increase in the capacity of the SD card which is now 32GB of memory storage.

The camera is an excellent choice for either hunters or homeowners who are looking for a stealthy option as a security device.

Trigger Speed

The trigger speed of this camera is reasonably quick without setting any records. It has been measured at 1.2 seconds which will ensure that the camera will capture most animals as they pass into the camera’s range. The recovery time is 5 seconds and again this is relatively fast without setting the benchmark standard.

The trigger burst that is available with this camera allows for up to three images to be captured with an interval of only 1 second. Alternatively the setting can be adjusted out to 60 minutes between shots for true time lapse capabilities.

Further Analysis

The PIR sensitivity can be adjusted with a selection choice of Low, Normal and High. Not only that but the resolution of the camera can also be adjusted with the option of setting it to take photos using 3, 5, 8 or 12 megapixel resolutions. Not only will you be adjusting the quality of the images that are produced but you will also be changing the battery life that the camera operates on.

The camera operates with a detection range of 50 feet and although the advertised night flash range is advertised as being 60 feet, you can expect to get more consistent results if you were to cater for a 50 foot range.

To assist with organising the pictures that you take and to help with game management strategies the display includes date/time, temperature and moon phase.

The camera is capable of working with a minimum of 4 AA batteries but for the best performance and to get a maximum battery life it is suggested that it be loaded up with 12 AA batteries. The Extreme Black 60 can use lithium alkaline batteries or Covert 2300mAh NiMH rechargeable AA batteries for an even better performance.

Securing the Camera

In order to secure the camera to deter thieves from picking it off the mounting site, you have the option of using a Python cable. The camera is fitted with holes that will take the cable as it is threaded through. It is also possible to lock the casing of the camera so that the inside LED screen cannot be accessed.

Couldn’t have said it any better! I’m currently using a Extreme Black 60 for security ops at the home right now. On video and does a jam up job giving me excellent 720p HD videos.

Frown FaceThe Negative

I had issued with both my Covert Black 60 after a couple of months. Sent them back for two new ones and sold the new ones. I’m in the minority with the dislike for the Coverts. Heard a bunch of good stuff about them but I had nothing but problems.
